Peer Specialist - Inpatient Behavioral Health

  • Salary Range: $21.50-$25.80 per hour, based on relevant years of experience
  • Location: Fort Collins, Colorado at Longview Acute Care Campus
  • Status: Full time, 40 hours per week
  • Hours: Sunday, Monday & Tuesday - 9a-930p; Every other Wednesday, 1p-930p

Employees working at locations operating 24/7 (Longview) earn a shift differential.  Shift differentials are also available for evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays.

Role Overview:

As a Peer Specialist you will use your life experience and your personal journey of recovery, addiction and/or mental health conditions to engage, advocate, and link SummitStone Health Partners clients to formal or informal treatment activities, services, and/or supports. A Peer Specialist cultivates mutual, supportive relationships with clients as they navigate through systems. This looks like highlighting strengths, sitting in discomfort, and walking side-by-side with clients as they move toward goals of their choosing.

Essential Duties:

  • Providing direct client care through individual and group sessions face to face, phone or telehealth contact.
  • Services will be community based and centered around client's recovery goals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation in medical health record and have knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion with the relevant ability to engage, communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people of different backgrounds, identities, and culturally diverse communities.

Required:

  • High school diploma, completion of G.E.D.
  • Applications will be considered for those who demonstrate active and sustained personal recovery for 2+ years by providing two (2) letters of recommendation.
  • No new charges or convictions in the last 2 years.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and a clean driving record.
  • Must complete training in SAHMSA Peer Core Competencies and COPA code of ethics prior to meeting with clients. (Training is included during the onboarding process).
  • Must obtain Colorado Peer Certification (CPFS) through COPA (Colorado Practitioners Association) within 1 year of employment. All training, experience hours, and payment for this certification are provided in-house.


Highly Desired:

  • Bilingual/bi-cultural preferred.
  • 2+ years of sustained recovery highly preferred.

Additional Requirement – Longview Campus

Please note: This position is subject to a mandatory background check through the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) TRAILS database, which reviews for any substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect.

This requirement applies to all staff working at our Longview campus, regardless of direct contact with adolescents, due to the fact that the facility provides adolescent treatment services. As such, completion of this background check is required for employment at this location.


Longview Campus is the new Acute Care Behavioral Health facility which serves Larimer County residents in need of urgent help with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
