Job Overview
The Crossing Guard Supervisor plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the safety and reliability of school-zone pedestrian crossings. This position oversees day-to-day field operations, supports a team of crossing guards, and serves as a primary liaison between Crossing Guard Services LLC, the local school district, municipal officials, and law enforcement. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-focused, and committed to delivering exceptional service to the community.
Key Responsibilities
Staffing, Hiring & Training
- Recruit, interview, and onboard new crossing guards.
- Conduct initial and ongoing training in accordance with state laws, municipal requirements, and company standards.
- Ensure all staff complete background checks, compliance documentation, and safety certifications.
Scheduling & Field Operations
- Prepare and manage weekly schedules for crossing guards.
- Actively monitor attendance and ensure all posts are covered—personally covering posts when necessary.
- Conduct routine site visits to evaluate performance and safety conditions.
- Maintain updated post maps, instructions, and operating procedures.
Municipal & School District Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the school district, Borough/Township officials, and Police Department.
- Attend meetings as required and communicate operational updates, staffing changes, and safety concerns.
- Ensure high service levels and rapid response to issues or complaints.
Performance Management
- Provide coaching, corrective feedback, and positive reinforcement to staff.
- Document and administer disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies.
- Support continuous improvement through mentoring and hands-on supervision.
Requirements
- Proven ability to manage and motivate staff in a field-based or service-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups including parents, school staff, law enforcement, and the public.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn traffic control practices, including recognizing safe gaps in traffic and interpreting traffic control devices.
- Physically able to stand for extended periods, including during inclement weather (rain, snow, heat, cold).
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple post locations as needed.
- Thorough background check required, including criminal history, reference checks, and employment verification.
