Summary

Position OverviewAt Future Leaders of Excellence, we’re looking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher who thrives in a collaborative, child-centered environment. In this role, you’ll lead your classroom with creativity, compassion, and professionalism—building a strong teaching team, implementing an engaging curriculum, and ensuring a warm, safe, and inspiring space for every child to learn and grow.
As a teacher, you’ll play a key role in shaping young minds by understanding each child’s unique social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. You’ll guide and support your classroom team, foster open communication with families, and create meaningful learning experiences that encourage curiosity, confidence, and success.

  • Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment for all children.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and staff to support each child’s learning journey.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to teacher assistants, fostering teamwork and professional growth.
  • Partner with families to celebrate progress, address concerns, and ensure a consistent, supportive learning experience.



Duties

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a dynamic, age-appropriate curriculum aligned with early learning standards and best practices in child development.
  • Model effective teaching strategies and provide guidance and coaching to support the success and growth of the teaching team.
  • Plan and lead engaging activities that promote children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, sharing updates through daily interactions, written progress reports, and scheduled conferences.
  • Ensure compliance with all center policies, licensing regulations, and safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes good hygiene and health practices at all times.
  • Supervise and mentor classroom assistants and volunteers, ensuring consistent implementation of lesson plans and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Accurately complete and maintain all required documentation, including attendance, incident, and developmental records.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance skills, maintain certifications, and support continuous program improvement.



Requirements

Skills Competencies:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, email, and recordkeeping systems).
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
  • Sound understanding of child growth and development principles.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
  • High level of energy, creativity, patience, and professionalism when working in a childcare setting.


Certifications Background Requirements:

  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification (required or obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Must successfully complete and maintain TDHS-required background checks, including fingerprinting and reference verification.
  • Must pass a pre-employment health screening as required under Tennessee Child Care Licensing Regulations.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in active supervision, including frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting on the floor with children.
  • Capable of lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to see and hear clearly, including close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to detect and respond to child cues and environmental sounds.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults in a busy classroom environment.
  • Must be willing to work towards an early childhood certification.



Nice To Haves

Education:

  • A Child Development Certification (CDA), TCC, or an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree may also be considered.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with young children in a childcare or early education setting is preferred but not required. Relevant experience will be considered an asset.
