Job DescriptionAbout Us:Children Mending Hearts (CMH) empowers youth in the Watts community by providing educational, creative, and social-emotional learning programs. Our after-school programs foster curiosity, compassion, and confidence in children through hands-on lessons and enrichment activities.
Position Overview:We seek a passionate and dedicated After-School Teacher to lead small-group instruction and enrichment activities for elementary and middle school students. The ideal candidate will have a background in education or youth development, strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to uplifting and empowering children in our community.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead enrichment activities based on specialty skills such as:
  • Arts & Creativity (visual arts, crafts, drama, music)
  • STEAM (science experiments, coding, robotics, math games)
  • Literacy & Reading (storytelling, book clubs, creative writing)
  • Wellness & Movement (sports, yoga, dance, mindfulness)
  • Support students in using technology such as iPads for learning and reading.
  • Supervise and guide students, ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Incorporate CMH’s mission of compassion, creativity, and community into lessons. Monitor student progress and encourage growth through feedback and recognition.
  • Collaborate with CMH staff and community partners to enhance program quality. Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting positive values and resilience.


Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or leading children in after-school, classroom, or community-based settings.
  • Specialization or strong interest in one or more enrichment areas (Arts, STEM, Literacy, or Wellness).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Pass a background check
  • Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work flexible afternoon hours, Monday–Friday., some weekends


Compensation & Schedule:

  • Part-time, 15- 20 hours.
  • Hourly rate: $18- $20
