Position Summary: Ensures the safety of faculty, staff, and students and monitors facilities, ensuring compliance with college rules and dealing with emergency situations.
THIS IS A WEEKEND NIGHT SHIFT POSITION- PART TIME
Duties and Responsibilities: (*Indicates non-essential function)
- Patrols campus during nighttime hours, checks boilers and other equipment for proper operation and reports unusual situations. Provides escorts on campus as needed.
- Checks outside windows in dorms and windows and doors in all campus buildings, including Greek houses, the Campus Village, Fife Avenue, and College Commons.
- Deals with students or other persons on campus who are in violation of college rules in a reasonable but effective manner.
- Exercises judgement and contacts proper authorities when situation warrants.
- Answers radio/telephone for emergency calls as needed, including weekends and holidays.
- Performs routine maintenance assistance and servicing of institutional vehicles. Periodically assists custodial staff where needed.
- Serves as an on-call person to help cover special events. Assists in covering for absence of other officers.
- Attends department meeting and special training programs outside normal work schedule.
- Periodically checks all parking lots to ensure that vehicles are safe. Checks for illegally parked vehicles and issues tickets or has them removed.
- Locks and unlocks buildings as scheduled.
- Performs related duties as needed or as assigned.

- Exhibits requisite skills and knowledge and an appreciation for confidentiality.
- Makes positive contributions to effective teamwork within the work unit and with other college departments.
- Strives for excellence in performance of responsibilities and in meeting needs of clients/students served.
- Knows and observes college and departmental policies, guidelines and procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized training in safety and security plus at least six months of security experience highly desirable.
- Possession of an Ohio driver’s license.
- Evidence of a high degree of maturity and dependability, with the ability to make sound judgements and deal with emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals who may require persuasion or other appropriate action.
- Ability to write reports and maintain records and logs. Background in investigations helpful.
- Willingness to independently work night shifts.
