Job DescriptionJob Purpose

The Senior CAD Operator / GIS Analyst provides essential drafting and mapping support to engineers and management teams, preparing and maintaining data primarily using GIS and AutoCAD. This position serves as a key resource to ensure that other departments have accurate and accessible mapping and record information. The Senior CAD Operator also leverages GIS data to support effective network planning and design.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide drafting support to multiple OSP Engineers on a variety of fiber-optic and copper-based projects, including construction drawings and staking sheets.

  • Prepare tabulations of materials and coordinate with Engineering, Logistics, Construction, and Facilities teams.

  • Utilize GIS data to support feasibility studies, high-level designs, and network planning efforts.

  • Update M4 maps and records based on as-built drawings received from field crews.

  • Ensure network maps and records remain current with any changes in BLCs, FDAs, and system upgrades.

  • Participate in special drafting projects, including state and federal mapping obligations and internal mapping needs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and company goals.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Bachelor's degree in relevent field preferred; equivalent work experience in a related discipline will be considered or 3+ years of experience with CAD/GIS.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Esri, Google Earth, and other GIS platforms required.

  • Experience in telecommunications or related utility industries preferred.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Ability to learn new drafting, mapping, and GIS software systems.

  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally to achieve results.

Working Conditions

This position is based at STRATA Networks’ Roosevelt Business Office and may occasionally require field visits.
