  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with diverse populations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in behavioral health or related fields is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual abilities or experience working with culturally diverse populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients in developing and maintaining personalized recovery plans that align with their goals and needs.
  • Facilitate support groups and recovery-oriented activities to build community and encourage peer connection.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, social workers, and community organizations to coordinate comprehensive care and resource access.
  • Advocate for clients’ needs and rights within treatment settings and the broader community to reduce barriers to recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client interactions and progress in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in peer recovery support.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Peer Recovery Support specialist to build trust and rapport with clients by drawing on their own recovery experience and demonstrating empathy. Effective communication skills are essential for facilitating group sessions, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and advocating for client needs. Organizational skills support accurate documentation and case management, ensuring continuity of care. Preferred skills such as crisis intervention and motivational interviewing enhance the ability to support clients through challenging moments and encourage positive behavioral change.
