Job Responsibilities
As the Microbiology Lab Supervisor, you will lead the strategic and operational oversight of microbiology and associated technical areas across multiple sites. Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations in microbiology (and related technical disciplines), ensuring consistent, high-quality performance
- Collaborate with site leadership to implement enterprise lab strategies, standards, and best practices
- Drive process improvement, cost optimization, and resource utilization across departments
- Monitor quality, regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and corrective actions in consultation with leadership
- Coach, mentor, and develop laboratory staff; manage performance, staffing, scheduling, and competency assessments
- Participate in operational planning, budgeting, and fiscal oversight, addressing variances and optimizing departmental outcomes
- Lead initiatives to standardize procedures, adopt new technologies, and support growth and innovation
- Foster open communication across shifts, sites, and lab teams to ensure seamless operations and patient safety
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Microbiology, or equivalent required
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS / MT) via ASCP or equivalent accrediting body required
Experience & Core Skills
- Minimum of 5 years in clinical laboratory sciences / operations, ideally in microbiology or related disciplines
- 3 years of laboratory leadership experience
- Strong ability to manage multiple sites, shifts, or departments simultaneously
- Deep familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., CAP, CLIA) and quality management
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proven ability to lead process improvement
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $43 – $58 per hour, depending on skills and experience
- Full-time, day-shift position with flexibility for oversight across sites
