Job Description

The Organization

Ambleside Colorado is a Christ-centered K–12 school committed to educational renewal through Charlotte Mason’s philosophy and practice. Since 2010, we have served the Denver-metro community by providing a living education to students and families.

Our curriculum and pedagogy are rooted in the work of British educator Charlotte Mason. Her emphasis on engaging students with rich ideas, cultivating habits, and nurturing a connection to truth, goodness, and beauty forms the foundation for our approach. This model trains students in attentiveness, wonder, and rigorous thinking—skills essential for pursuing lives of character and purpose.

The Position

Ambleside Colorado is seeking a High School Math/Science Teacher, ideally with the ability to teach Math and/or Sciences at the high school level. This teacher will guide students through topics such as advanced mathematical reasoning, scientific inquiry, and hands-on experimentation while inviting them to explore the natural world and grapple with big ideas.

This role blends intellectual rigor with student formation, helping young people understand complex concepts through the lens of timeless truths. Our high school classrooms are relational, disciplined, and marked by joyful curiosity.

Responsibilities

Classroom Atmosphere

  • Creates an optimal learning environment free from incentives, rewards, punishments, and unnecessary distractions
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and engaging classroom conducive to concentration and inquiry
  • Takes responsibility for math/science materials—including laboratory equipment—and involves students in their care
  • Builds warm, respectful relationships with students and parents
  • Supports students’ academic, spiritual, relational, and physical development

Academic Excellence

  • Teaches high school-level math and/or sciences
  • Follows Ambleside’s curriculum guides and implements approved resources with fidelity
  • Designs lessons that reflect Charlotte Mason’s philosophy—emphasizing living ideas, narration, hands-on engagement, and thoughtful questioning
  • Leads students through conceptual understanding, problem-solving, mathematical proofs, scientific observation, and lab-based investigation
  • Ensures all science instruction reflects best practices in safety, accuracy, and a posture of wonder
  • Provides academic support through scheduled tutoring or parent coaching
  • Models a love of learning and fosters an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity
  • Continues to grow professionally in both subject mastery and Charlotte Mason pedagogy
  • Participates in ongoing training and remains a lifelong learner

Professionalism

  • Strives for excellence while demonstrating humility
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of students by adhering to school policies
  • Respects student confidentiality and exercises discretion
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries in communication with all members of the school community
  • Communicates clearly, respectfully, and regularly with parents
  • Reports academic or behavioral concerns promptly to school leadership
  • Keeps accurate and complete records for each student
  • Promotes open, candid, and respectful communication among staff
  • Cultivates a respectful, values-based school culture

Peacemaking

  • Guides students in resolving conflicts with empathy and understanding
  • Approaches interpersonal conflict with respect, addressing issues directly and biblically
  • Contributes to a culture of unity, assuming the best of others and speaking truth in love
  • Avoids gossip or indirect conflict resolution
  • Expresses disagreements privately and respectfully, and supports decisions publicly
  • Demonstrates teamwork, collaboration, and partnership with colleagues and leadership

Qualifications

  • Educational Requirement: Minimum BA/BS degree; preference for degrees in Mathematics, Physics, or related fields
  • Preferred Experience: Prior teaching experience, lab safety training, and/or familiarity with Charlotte Mason philosophy (training provided)
  • Be prompt, present, and attentive during the normal working hours of the school day
  • Perform duties related to arrival and dismissal alongside other teachers and staff
  • Make Friday afternoons available until 3:45 p.m. for staff and professional meetings; if meetings end early, use the remaining time for on-site teacher planning (part-time employees: see assigned hours)
  • Attend in-service trainings and workdays noted on the calendar (part-time employees: check with the principal in advance for individual expectations)
  • Hold parent-teacher conferences as published on the school calendar and as individually requested by parents

  • Attend all Community Events, at least three Ambleside Evenings, and Open Houses as requested
  • Attend weekly staff devotions when scheduled
  • Participate in school-wide events published on the school calendar
  • Engage in available training opportunities, including local programs, internships, and the Summer Institute
  • Perform other duties as assigned
