CEM Corporation (Matthews, NC) is seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Applications Scientist to join our Life Science division. In this customer-facing role, you will provide expert, proactive applications support for our MultiPep and Prodigy instrumentation platforms, which are used in peptide synthesis and purification. You will play a key role in ensuring the successful onboarding, training, and ongoing support of customers throughout the U.S. and Canada.
To succeed in this role, you must maintain strong technical expertise and hands-on proficiency with CEM’s peptide instrumentation, including the ability to independently operate, train users, and troubleshoot systems. Exceptional communication skills and a proactive approach are essential to delivering a high standard of customer satisfaction.
In addition to direct customer support, you will contribute to product development efforts through software and performance testing, create technical support documentation, and represent CEM at industry trade shows as needed.
Responsibilities:
Applications Scientist Responsibilities Include but not limited to:
Customer Applications Support (MultiPep line, Prodigy)
- Provide direct, high-level applications to customers using the MultiPep and Prodigy product lines
- Respond to inquires via phone and peptide support email
- Partner closely with Life Science Inside Service Specialists to resolve customer issues promptly and thoroughly
- Conduct applications training for customers, CEM personnel, and dealers as needed
- Deliver clear, proactive communication to ensure excellent customer satisfaction
Sales & Marketing Support
- Supply product information, documentation, and part numbers to customers, sales staff, and representatives
- Participate in industry conferences and trade shows to provide technical expertise and support booth activities
Product Development Support
- Perform software and instrument performance testing as needed
- Assist in the creation of technical documentation and training materials for new and existing products
Qualifications:
- Required: BA/BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field scientific field
- Strong understanding of peptide synthesis and purification workflows
- Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (preferably peptide synthesizers such as MultiPep or Prodigy)
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% across the US and Canada
- Must be based on-site at CEM Corporation’s headquarters (this is not a remote position)
