Upper School English (Leave Replacement)
The Pennington School is seeking a temporary (leave replacement) Upper School English teacher for the 2025-26 academic year, beginning in early January 2026 and continuing through mid-June 2026. The ideal candidate will have proven success with teaching students in Grades 9-12. This instructor will teach three or four sections of English in the Upper School.
Essential Duties:
- Teach a range of students in Upper School English courses that may include American Identities (Grade 10), AP English Literature and Composition, and Grade 12 English electives
- Embrace student-centered teaching practices and backward design in curriculum planning
- Elicit individual excellence in every student, moving the student toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding
- Prize process writing and critical thinking, offer prompt and meaningful feedback to students on papers, projects, tests, seminars, and other graded assessments
- Demonstrate warmth, collegiality, humor, and industry in interactions with students, colleagues, and parents
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English (or related discipline); Master's degree preferred
- Proven success with teaching students in Grades 9-12.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Enthusiasm for working with students in and out of the classroom
- Desire to be an active member of a community that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Interest in a boarding school environment
- Ability to work with a variety of learning styles
- A positive attitude, a growth mindset, and a sense of humor

The minimum monthly salary for this position is $4,000. The actual offer may be higher, commensurate with skills and experience.
