Senior Port Captain Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Port Captain specializing in tanker operations to provide leadership and expert support for marine activities at our facilities. This shore-based role is critical in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient handling of tankers and barges involved in crude oil refining and distribution. The ideal candidate will bring a strong maritime background, regulatory knowledge, and leadership capabilities to support operations, emergency response, and marine assurance functions.
Senior Port Captain Responsibilities:
- Oversee and support marine operations involving tankers and barges, ensuring adherence to U.S. Coast Guard and international maritime regulations.
- Provide technical guidance on marine measurement, loss control, and interface issues with facility operations.
- Ensure compliance with terminal operational standards and safety regulations, including dangerous cargo handling.
- Assist in developing and executing emergency response procedures and plans.
- Support marine assurance activities by liaising with facility management and regulatory agencies to maintain regulatory compliance and safety standards.
- Maintain operational oversight with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and best practices.
Senior Port Captain Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized Maritime Academy or equivalent maritime experience.
- Master Mariner License with Dangerous Cargo Endorsement (OIL) preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years of marine-related experience, including time at sea on tankers or shoreside management roles.
- Strong understanding of tanker operations, marine measurement, loss control, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven computer literacy skills and familiarity with marine software tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with facility teams and regulatory authorities.
