The Fall Line is a premier private destination golf and sporting club located in Butler, GA. Our state-of-the-art facilities include two 18-hole championship golf courses and a 9-hole short course. For shooting sports enthusiasts, we offer clay bird shooting, hunting and fishing. Our hospitality amenities feature multiple dining and lodging options, complemented by a 25-acre produce farm that enhances our culinary offerings.

Position Summary

This internship provides hands-on experience in golf course maintenance and agronomy operations at a top-tier private club. The Intern will work alongside our professional agronomy team to learn all aspects of course setup, turf management, irrigation, equipment operation, environmental stewardship, and tournament preparation. The role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Turfgrass Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related fields who are passionate about golf course management and interested in building a foundation toward a future Assistant Superintendent or Agronomy leadership role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily golf course setup (mowing, rolling greens, raking bunkers, and preparing tee and tournament markers).
  • Learn and perform cultural practices including aerification, topdressing, fertilization, pesticide application, and moisture management.
  • Participate in irrigation system monitoring, hand-watering, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
  • Operate and maintain turf equipment including mowers, utility vehicles, and maintenance tools.
  • Support turf health assessments and recordkeeping related to playing conditions, disease pressure, and weather patterns.
  • Collaborate with the agronomy leadership team on improvement projects and course enhancement initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining safe working conditions and follow all OSHA standards and club safety policies.
  • Participate in scheduled learning sessions with the Director of Agronomy team including leadership development, agronomy theory, and project-based learning.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain practical experience in championship-level golf course maintenance.
  • Understand agronomic decision-making, tournament preparation, and daily conditioning standards.
  • Develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills in a high-expectation environment.
  • Build professional relationships and receive mentorship from experienced agronomy leaders.
  • Exposure to Fall Line’s future development—including a third 18-hole course and large-scale turf installations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Environmental Science, or similar.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to work early mornings, some weekends, and in variable weather conditions.
  • Passion for the game of golf and pride in course presentation.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a high-performing team.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working on a golf course, sports turf complex, or related environment.
  • Basic knowledge of turf equipment, irrigation principles, and chemical applications.
  • Career interest in becoming an Assistant Superintendent or agronomy team leader.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, operate equipment, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable working in heat/humidity typical of the Georgia climate.

Compensation and Housing

  • Competitive hourly rate based on experience and academic level.
  • Housing assistance may be available on property or nearby depending on availability.
  • Interns receive access to professional networking opportunities.
  • Successful interns may be considered for future full-time roles upon graduation.

Our Ideal Candidate

A motivated student who takes initiative, demonstrates pride in their work, and has a genuine interest in agronomy and golf course excellence. They thrive in a team environment, enjoy being hands-on, and share our core values of service, selflessness, and stewardship of the land.
