Position Overview
The Purchaser plays a critical role in the financial and operational success of our landscape design–build projects. This position is responsible for creating, developing and maintaining a highly reliable estimating and purchasing system, while building strong, long-term relationships with both local and nationwide vendors and subcontractors.
This role bridges design intent, field execution, and financial performance—ensuring projects are priced accurately, materials are secured efficiently, and partners are aligned with our quality standards.
Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Systems
- Develop, maintain, and continuously refine a repeatable and accurate estimating system for our sales team to implement landscape construction projects
- Build and manage cost databases for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Collaborate with design and project management teams to ensure estimates reflect constructability, sequencing, and real-world conditions
- Track estimated vs. actual costs and implement improvements to pricing accuracy over time
- Standardize assemblies and unit pricing to support scalability and consistency
Purchasing & Procurement
- Prepare and execute purchase orders for materials, plants, hardscape, and specialty items to align with project deadlines
- Coordinate lead times, delivery schedules, and staging with project managers and field teams
- Ensure materials meet quality specifications and design intent
- Proactively identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising craftsmanship or longevity
Vendor & Subcontractor Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with trusted vendors, growers, fabricators, and subcontractors
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and availability aligned with long-term partnerships
- Evaluate vendor performance based on reliability, quality, responsiveness, and value
- Identify and onboard new vendors as the company grows or project needs evolve
- Work closely with designers to provide early cost feedback during concept and design development
- Support project managers with budget clarity, purchasing strategy, and job cost tracking
- Assist leadership with forecasting, margin analysis, and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in purchasing, estimating, or cost management within landscape construction, construction, or related trades
- Strong understanding of landscape materials, construction methods, and scheduling
- Creative ability to build systems, processes, and pricing structures from the ground up
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working with estimating software, spreadsheets, and PM tools
- Clear communicator who works well across design, operations, and leadership teams
Preferred Experience
- Experience in design–build or custom residential construction
- Familiarity with high-end or luxury landscape projects
- Experience standardizing pricing and improving margin predictability
- Experience with Contractor Foreman, JobTread, or Builder Trend a plus
- Background working with plant procurement, hardscape suppliers, and specialty vendors

- Base salary range $60,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience
