The Director of Construction is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all construction operations for commercial projects. This individual will manage multiple project teams, ensure project completion on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commercial construction management, exceptional leadership abilities, and a strong understanding of industry regulations and best practices.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of all commercial construction projects.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to project managers, superintendents, and field personnel.
- Ensure all projects meet quality standards, safety regulations, and client expectations.
- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve profitability goals.
- Monitor project progress and implement adjustments as needed to meet deadlines and objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing construction management teams.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with the business development team to secure new projects and expand client partnerships.
- Represent the company at industry events, client meetings, and project kick-offs.
- Establish and enforce company policies, procedures, and best practices for construction operations.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost savings.
- Proactively identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Resolve issues related to delays, design changes, or unforeseen conditions promptly.
- Manage contract negotiations, claims, and dispute resolutions in coordination with legal counsel.
Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge of construction industry and all phases of construction projects.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale commercial construction projects.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety regulations, building codes, and industry best practices.
- Exceptional budgeting, scheduling, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, P6, CMiC, Microsoft Project).
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in commercial construction management.
