Job Summary:

Environmental Research Group, LLC (ERG) seeks an Archaeological Field Technician II to join our team for an upcoming cultural resource management project located at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. The primary responsibilities will include conducting pedestrian surveys and shovel test excavations to identify and document archaeological resources. This project is anticipated to start September 15, 2025, and end mid to late October 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct systematic pedestrian surveys to identify archaeological materials
  2. Perform shovel test excavations according to project protocols
  3. Record filed observations including soil profiles, artifact descriptions, and site conditions
  4. Collect and record archaeological data, artifacts, and materials for subsequent analysis and interpretation
  5. Complete standardized field forms, notes, and sketch maps accurately
  6. Use GPS units and tablets to document field data
  7. Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies while working in the field
  8. Work collaboratively with crew members, field supervisors, project managers and other stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to meet or exceed the following elements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or equivalent discipline (required)
  • Secretary of Interior Qualified (required)
  • Ability to pass background check (required)
  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above (required)
  • Familiarity with standard field equipment such as GPS, compass, shovel and trowel (required)
  • Ability to conduct strenuous fieldwork in various environmental conditions, including heat and rugged terrain (required)
  • Ability to stay at lodging near the project site (required, unless the candidate is local to the project site)
  • Reliable transportation to/from lodging (required)
  • Valid driver's license for commuting to various segments of the project site (required)
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills (required)
  • Ability to work eight hours per day, Monday through Friday (required)
  • Archaeological experience in the southwest (highly preferred)

Pay & Benefits:

This is an hourly position with a base rate of pay of $20.66 per hour plus $5.55 per hour for health and welfare. Although work for this position is Monday through Friday, lodging will be Company paid seven days a week for the duration of the project, as well as per diem. Lodging is anticipated to be a hotel suite that includes a kitchenette with various stores and restaurants within walking distance. Additional work may be offered after the project conclusion.
