Title: STEAM Coordinator

Hours: Part-time, non-exempt – 24 hours per week. Schedule is flexible and primarily consists of afternoons, evenings, & Saturdays

Department: Social Recreation

Reports to: Director of Programs

Pay: Starting at $19.50 per hour

The purpose of this job description is to report the functions, requirements, and working conditions of the STEAM Coordinator.


ESSENTIONAL FUNCTIONS:

The part-time STEAM Coordinator is an instructional leader who develops and implements hands-on, project based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) programs for youth and is responsible for creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for school-age middle school and high school youth through planning and implementation of programs, events, and workshops. The STEAM Coordinator will collaborate with the School Age department to provide programming for the After School and Summer Fun programs as it relates to Makerspace activities. Additional duties include overseeing the acquisition and installation of equipment, recruitment and retention of youth participants, and networking with community members through outreach and events.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Identifying interest and needs of school-age, middle school and high school students in Ludlow and surrounding communities.

· Design, plan, and lead engaging STEAM activities, lessons, and projects for various age groups.

· Establishing and maintaining relationships with community organizations, especially Ludlow Public Schools.

· Overseeing all aspects of a comprehensive eSports program, including development and implementation of age-appropriate programs, events, workshops, and leagues/clubs that focus on key areas: education, social recreation, creativity, technology, & life skills.

· Setting up & breaking down program space for planned activities, communicating need for supplies and equipment.

· Acting as the Club liaison for youth, caregivers, and LPS personnel to promote programming, engaging, and encouraging participation.

· Communicating with others in the organization regarding scheduling and promotional aspects of programming.

· Ensuring program areas are safe, well-ventilated, and well-lit; and that equipment is maintained in good working condition.

· Assisting in proper record keeping and reporting of activities and events conducted, daily participation figures, notable achievements, and any problems/issues.

· May be required to assist in program area outside of normal responsibilities and may be responsible for opening, closing, and supervising the building.

· May consult with parents/members regarding member issues.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 18 years of age or older.

Education/Experience: Educational experience in youth development, education, leisure studies, or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience. A minimum of one year of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization; experience planning and supervising activities based on the development needs of youth, families, and adult programs.


SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

· CPR and First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain in first 90 days

· Customer service and strong communication skills with youth, above average interpersonal skills

· Extensive knowledge of STEAM subjects, to include eSports, Makerspace equipment, and general technologies

· Strong organization and program planning abilities

· Insight into teen needs and interest, willingness to connect with older youth to identify age-appropriate offerings

· Honesty, integrity, and operating as a team player are critical to this organization

· Ability to work well independently and in a team environment

· Ability to balance multiple assignments and adjust direction and priorities within a fast-paced and multi-faceted work environment

· Report to scheduled shifts consistently and on time

· Follow policies, procedures, and rules of the organization

· Maintain high program standards

· Be a strong advocate for the Club being a positive environment


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Moving about from location to location or point to point to perform tasks of the job. Coordination of multiple projects; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 50 lbs.; as well as climb, stoop, and/or kneel, reach, communicate, and see. Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Irregular hours depending on the season; outdoor and indoor work.
