JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Ability to adequately do the following:
Perform the duties of a medical technologist (generalist).
Work under the direction of the administrative and medical laboratory directors.
Work closely with the administrative director, the technologists, technicians, and
assistants.
Work in all areas of the laboratory and in patient areas.
Supervise the overall technical operations of the laboratory.
Be subject to frequent interruptions.
Be willing to work beyond normal working hours, take emergency call when
necessary and be available either on site or by electrical means.
Cope with possible subjection to infectious diseases and substances.
Perform certain clerical duties.
Assist administrative director in maintenance and implementation of laboratorys ongoing quality assurance/quality improvement program.
Meets regularly with the Administrative Director of the Laboratory. Reports problems in a timely manner.
Report laboratory results to those individuals who are authorized to receive results.
Communicate effectively and deal tactfully with physicians, other hospital personnel , fellow department personnel, patients, and the general public.
Maintain adequate stock and supply levels.
Attend appropriate inservice activities and meetings
Other miscellaneous duties as directed by the administrative or medical director, within the scope of training and ability.
Education and experience:
Successful completion in an accredited college or university, of a course of study which meets all academic requirements for a bachelors degree in Medical Technology or one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences.
Must have at least four years experience as a registered or certified medical technologist and preferably two additional years in a supervisory capacity.

Must possess adequate knowledge to work in and supervise the following areas:
1. Specimen collection 5. Microbiology 9. Routine & Preventive maintenance
2. Chemistry 6. Parasitology 10. Hematology
3. Urinalysis 7. Serology 11. Quality Control
4. Blood Bank 8. Coagulation 12. Quality assessment/Quality improvement
