The Senior Advanced Tactical Training Specialist will provide high-level expertise in planning, instruction, and performance analysis to support the Navy’s Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) mission areas. This position requires a SECRET clearance with TS//SCI eligibility and extensive operational and instructional experience with Surface Navy combat systems, networks, and weapons systems.


The Specialist will deliver training in both classroom and shipboard environments, develop and revise Navy curricula, and provide technical and tactical expertise in support of advanced warfare training events such as SWATT, IADC, FADO, AMW COI, and SCC COI. The role also includes evaluating ship tactical readiness, supporting performance analysis, coordinating with Navy warfare centers, and producing training materials, reports, and technical documentation.


Your duties will consist, but are not limited to:

  • Provide instruction in a formal schoolhouse/classroom environment, including curriculum updates and development of Warfighting Tactics Instructor (WTI) and other Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) courses.
  • Deliver technical and tactical expertise to support lectures, classroom instruction, and course revisions.
  • Contribute to and support advanced warfare training events such as Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT), Integrated Air and Missile Defense Commander (IADC), Fleet Air Defense Officer (FADO), Amphibious Warfare Commander’s Course (AMW COI), and Sea Combat Commander’s Course (SCC COI).
  • Provide planning and administrative support for SWATT Lead Planners, including drafting and routing letters of instruction (LOIs), coordinating planning conferences, scheduling operating areas, and performing exercise control watchstanding.
  • Conduct performance analysis of surface ship tactical readiness and operational capability, including collection and analysis of performance metrics, and provide direct support to the Performance Analysis lead.
  • Coordinate with NSWC Corona and NUWC Keyport Det Pacific personnel to support data-driven assessments, reports, and briefs.
  • Develop, evaluate, and update curricula across SMWDC warfare mission areas (AMW, Surface ASW, IAMD, MIW, SUW, and supporting areas such as C41/MTN) in accordance with Navy standards.
  • Ensure all training products align with U.S. Navy Mission Essential Task List (NMETL), doctrine, and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).
  • Evaluate existing training materials, ensuring technical accuracy, usability, and compliance with Navy standards.
  • Provide technical writing, graphics, documentation, and specialized briefs to support SMWDC training events.

  • Must possess and maintain a current SECRET clearance and be eligible for TS/SCI
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any required Navy instructor certifications.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications:
Applicants must demonstrate the following qualifications:

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following:

  • Experience: At least 12 years of military, government, or industry experience in surface Navy combat systems, C5I, networks, and weapons systems.
  • Specialized Experience: At least 5 years of planning experience in a Strike Group, Fleet, Major Training Command, or Systems Testing Command.
  • Operational Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience aboard Navy cruisers, destroyers, or qualified DoD warfare commands.
  • Watchstanding Qualification: Must be qualified and experienced in a position with the authority to employ the Aegis Weapon System (e.g., Tactical Action Officer (TAO), Air Warfare Coordinator (AAWC), or Battle Watch Captain). Must possess a Tactical Action Officer qualification letter or Ballistic Missile Defense Watch Officer qualification letter.
  • Training/Analysis Expertise: Experience in qualitative and quantitative assessment methods related to warfighting readiness and capability evaluations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word).

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent military training, certifications, or advanced professional education may substitute for degree requirements.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated based on your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in the following areas:

  • Technical writing and editing for defense-related publications.
  • Knowledge of Navy and Joint doctrine, TTPs, and publication processes.
  • Proficiency in Adobe design and editing tools.
  • Ability to synthesize complex tactical/technical information into clear, concise publications.
  • Experience coordinating with SMEs and Warfare Tactics Instructors.
