Job DescriptionSalary: $110,000-$180,000

The Opportunity:

As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for technical leadership of innovative research and technology development with an emphasis on quantum sensing and inertial navigation systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative solutions to technological problems in the area of position, navigation, and timing (PNT).
  • Support technical concept development with modeling and simulations.
  • Implement new technological concepts with proof of principle prototypes in laboratory and field environments.
  • Support engineering design of new sensors and systems based on theoretical and experimental prototype development.
  • Guide and support ongoing technology development with agile and creative responses to unforeseen technical issues.
  • Develop test protocols and oversee testing of inertial sensors and systems.
  • Analyze test data and support data driven decision making for next steps.
  • Provide technical inputs to support monthly technical progress updates (PowerPoint) to internal and external customers, as well contributions to occasional written reports.
  • Leverage a strong technical background enabling interaction with systems engineers, hardware/electrical/software engineers, and other technical staff members.
  • Support preparation of proposals, RFI responses, whitepapers, etc.
  • Generate cost baselines and work breakdown structures to support internal cost and price reviews.
  • Travel within the U.S. and internationally to support program reviews and other customer interactions.

What You Bring to Safran Federal Systems:

  • 6+ years of experience in quantum sensing, simulation, or computing fields.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in Engineering/ Physics/ Optics/ Material Science
  • Ph.D. in quantum related field strongly preferred
  • Technical writing skill and experience academic thesis, journal and/or conference papers, whitepapers, project proposals, project reports; ability to support technical writing with high quality graphics/ charts/ schematics
  • Speaking/ Presentation/ Dialogue Skills white board, small and large group presentations; high degree of comfort speaking with senior military and staff personnel; ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals; intuitive ability to pivot from presentation to dialogue as appropriate
  • Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency and drive
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
  • Self-motivated, with ability to self-prioritize effectively to achieve goals; comfortable forging a path amid uncertainty and ambiguity
  • High level of skill communicating effectively across internal and external organizations, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Proficient in Positioning, Navigation and Timing technologies or related high-tech industry preferred
  • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress and conflict situations.
  • Ability to simultaneously address multiple complex problems.
  • The person needs to be able to occasionally move within the office setting and access file cabinets, machinery etc.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery
