REPORTS TO: Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Valid Illinois Teaching Certificate or Type 39 Certificate

2. Successful background clearance, physical, and drug/alcohol screening

3. Ability to meet all licensing standards of the Department of Human Services and the Department of Child and Family Services

STANDARD OF PERFORMANCE:

The Substitute Teacher ensures that the events of the school day and the staff interaction with the students are geared to promote the physical, social, behavioral, academic and emotional development of the students of The Hope School. The Substitute Teacher ensures that educational routines provide functional and age appropriate activities and are implemented in an environment consistent with meeting the safety and health needs of each student.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures that Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s) are implemented.

2. Ensures that educational lessons activities, programs, and curriculum are functional and age appropriate to promote achievement of each student’s desired outcomes.

3. Supervises classroom paraprofessionals to ensure proper implementation of programs, schedules, and activities.

4. Ensures that classroom paraprofessionals complete the required daily documentation for each student.

5. Completes required reports and other documentation accurately and promptly.

6. Utilizes appropriate materials, devices, and equipment necessary for educational activities.

7. Exhibits classroom management skills that foster a positive, professional atmosphere that is educationally stimulating for students.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assumes responsibility as a mandated reporter concerning incidents of purported abuse/neglect of clients, as outlined in the Agency Policy/Procedures.

2. Assumes responsibility for assuring compliance of client rights and program delivery as defined in the Illinois Department of Mental Health Code and the Confidentiality Act, as well as the Child Care Act of the Department of Children and Family Services.

3. Attends required training.

4. All other duties as required assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
