Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with quality and safety standards. This role involves supervising laboratory staff, managing workflow, monitoring testing processes, and ensuring that laboratory results meet scientific and regulatory standards. The Laboratory Supervisor acts as a bridge between laboratory staff and management to ensure smooth operations and high-quality output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision & Leadership

    • Supervise daily laboratory operations, assigning and monitoring tasks to laboratory scientists, technicians, and assistants.

    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to laboratory staff.

    • Support staff training and professional development.

  • Laboratory Operations

    • Manage workflow to ensure timely and accurate completion of testing and research activities.

    • Monitor equipment use, calibration, and maintenance schedules.

    • Ensure adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance

    • Ensure all laboratory work adheres to regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, ISO).

    • Maintain and enforce laboratory safety procedures and biosafety protocols.

    • Conduct audits, review documentation, and oversee quality control processes.

  • Technical & Analytical Support

    • Assist staff in resolving technical problems and troubleshooting equipment or test-related issues.

    • Review and approve test results, reports, and data before release.

    • Contribute to method development, validation, and process improvement initiatives.

  • Collaboration & Reporting

    • Act as a point of contact between laboratory staff and management.

    • Communicate updates, issues, and results to management and stakeholders.

    • Prepare regular operational and quality performance reports.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field required.

    • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience:

    • 4–6 years of laboratory experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.

    • Experience with laboratory quality management systems and regulatory compliance.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong leadership and organizational skills.

    • Excellent knowledge of laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and testing protocols.

    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

    • Proficiency with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
