PURPOSE

The Safety Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining safety training programs that ensure all employees, subcontractors, and field personnel understand and adhere to company and regulatory safety standards. This role plays a key part in building a culture of safety awareness, compliance, and accountability across all construction sites and operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver safety training programs covering OSHA standards, job-specific hazards, PPE use, fall protection, confined spaces, equipment operation, and other construction-related topics.
  • Conduct regular safety orientations for new hires, subcontractors, and site personnel.
  • Perform on-site safety audits and provide coaching or corrective training as needed.
  • Maintain and update safety training records, certifications, and documentation in compliance with company and federal requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, foremen, and site supervisors to identify training needs and implement proactive safety initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement by reviewing feedback from students and supervisors.
  • Lead toolbox talks, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Stay current with industry safety regulations (OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA) and recommend updates to training programs accordingly.
  • Support the investigation of incidents and near-misses by providing safety training follow-ups and corrective education.
  • Promote a culture of safety excellence through field engagement, mentorship, and communication.
  • Attend professional safety seminars or instructor development programs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in construction safety, field supervision, or training delivery
  • Proven ability to conduct engaging, effective training sessions both in the classroom and on-site
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and construction safety standard
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software (e.g., Procore, SafetyCulture, etc.)

Certifications:

  • OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 (Construction Industry Safety & Health) preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
  • CHST, CSHO, or equivalent certification a plus

  • Motivates teams to take ownership of safety practices and compliance
  • Pursues continuous learning to stay current with industry standards and best practices

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally
  • Significant field and client interactions on construction job sites, which may require prolonged periods of standing, walking and/or climbing stairs
  • Occasional exposure to variety of temperature and weather conditions
