SUMMARY
Arcticom, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Senior Java Developer in Suitland, MD. This position requires a developer experienced in developing and maintaining web applications in Java. While the primary focus is on server-side development, some experience with front-end frameworks and languages is preferred. This includes Angular, Angular Material, Bootstrap, and JavaScript, as this role will overlap and back up the Front-End Web Developer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Developing and maintaining web applications in Java.
· Design applications and refactor code as necessary to ensure optimal design, performance, modularization, and centralization, while eliminating redundancies.
· Commitment to code security and integrity, utilizing tools like GitHub code scanning and CodeQL to identify and remediate vulnerabilities

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications
· A bachelor’s degree is required
· 5-7 years of experience in data analysis/business intelligence
· Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
· Knowledge of Node.js, particularly for future development initiatives.
· Familiarity with and experience working with service-oriented architecture and microservices, including applications designed using RESTful API services.
· Proficiency with package managers like Maven and npm, and an understanding of working with package repositories like Nexus in a corporate environment.
· Experience with DevOps best practices, including:
· Writing and maintaining code using version control (GitHub), with familiarity in branching strategies like GitFlow, release management, rebasing, and maintaining a clean Git commit history.
· Working with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or GitHub Actions) to include creating and maintaining pipelines and related processes.
· Containerization (mostly using Docker or similar) for both local development and testing, and for deploying and running applications in various environments (dev, test, stage, QA, etc.).
· Experience developing and maintaining code in cloud-based applications, either on Virtual Machines (VMs) or in containerized clusters.
· Familiarity writing code to emulate database data models and working with databases generally, especially Oracle and PostgreSQL.
· Familiarity with web servers like IIS, Tomcat, and Apache, sufficient to work successfully with the server administration team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
