Summary

The Locate Supervisor leads and supports a team of locate technicians to ensure timely, accurate underground utility locates. This role requires strong leadership, communication skills, and knowledge of utility mapping and regulations, while fostering positive stakeholder relationships and promoting industry best practices.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Team Management: Supervise, support, and evaluate Locate Technicians to maintain high performance and adherence to standards.
  • Training & Certification: Onboard, train, and certify new Locate Technicians in the proper use of locating equipment and safety protocols.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, compliance, and service quality.
  • Scheduling & Logistics: Coordinate daily work schedules and assign routes to optimize technician deployment and meet service demands.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of locate activities, damages, and incidents to meet regulatory and audit requirements and verify timesheets.
  • Communication: Liaise with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment and resolve issues.
  • Quality Assurance: Enforce quality control procedures to minimize errors and improve locate accuracy.
  • Issue Resolution: Manage escalated issues from staff or customers with professionalism and urgency.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and new technologies related to utility locating.
  • Safety Leadership: Promote and enforce safety standards, fostering a strong safety culture within the team.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, or other related field is recommended with 2 (two) years of related experience, and 2 (two) years of managerial experience OR a high school diploma/GED with 5 (five) years of direct related experience
  • Comfort in presenting data and financials to team and various other departments.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with multi-screen display
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft tools such as Excel, Word, SharePoint, etc.
  • Proficient in using Locating software and equipment

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to multi-task as well as use critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate self-management and direction toward accomplishing goals and completing specific work assignments
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to adapt and be flexible as new work requirements emerge
  • Ability to work in a general office environment

Additional Notes

  • This role is primarily based in an office environment but will require quarterly field visits to support, coach, educate and evaluate each location technician.
  • As needed, the Locate Supervisor will assume the responsibilities of a Locate Technician as needed to support a higher-than-normal volume, step in for another technician and/or to coach, inspect, and evaluate.
