About Turlock Gospel Mission & Nourish Program
Turlock Gospel Mission (TGM) is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness through restoration of relationships with God, family, and community. The Nourish Job Readiness Program is a year-long culinary training initiative that empowers individuals overcoming homelessness, addiction, and justice involvement by equipping them with culinary and entrepreneurial skills. The Nourish Food Truck serves as a mobile training platform and social enterprise, providing students with real-world experience in food preparation, customer service, and business operations.
About the Opportunity Truck
The Turlock Gospel Mission’s Opportunity Truck is a state-of-the-art mobile food platform designed to train culinary students in small business operations and to incubate entrepreneurs needing an opportunity. As part of the Mission’s broader efforts to combat homelessness and support community reintegration, the Opportunity Truck provides hands-on experience in food preparation, customer service, and business management, by operating in various locations throughout Stanislaus County, the truck not only offers practical training for aspiring culinary professionals but also serves as a stepping stone for entrepreneurs seeking to establish their own ventures in the food industry. This initiative reflects the Mission’s commitment to fostering self-sufficiency and economic empowerment among individuals facing challenging circumstances.
Position Summary
The Food Truck Operator will oversee the daily operations of the Nourish Food Truck, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, delivering excellent customer service, and mentoring culinary students in a trauma-informed environment. This role is pivotal in providing hands-on training to students, fostering their personal and professional growth, and supporting their journey towards self-sufficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management:
- Prepare and operate the food truck, including stocking supplies, food preparation, equipment maintenance, and ensuring cleanliness.
- Ensure compliance with local health and safety regulations, including obtaining necessary permits and licenses.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with suppliers for timely replenishment.
- Student Mentorship:
- Provide on-the-job training to culinary students, teaching food preparation, customer service, and food truck operations.
- Foster a supportive and trauma-informed environment, understanding the unique challenges faced by students.
- Collaborate with program staff to track student progress and provide feedback.
- Customer Service:
- Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring a positive dining experience.
- Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints effectively.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of sales, inventory, and student training hours.
- Assist in marketing efforts, including social media promotion and community outreach events.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years in food service management, preferably in a food truck or mobile kitchen setting.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those overcoming homelessness or addiction.
- Skills:
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food safety standards.

- Ability to mentor and train individuals with varying skill levels.
- Proficiency in basic administrative tasks, including record-keeping and inventory management.
- Certifications:
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Food Handler’s Certification or ServSafe Manager Certification.

- Empathetic and patient, with a trauma-informed approach to mentorship.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing environments and schedules.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
- Work environment will include commissary kitchen and food truck platform
