Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver – Independent Contractor (1099) - Use Your Own Car!
Location: Topeka, KS
Compensation: $16–$22 per hour equivalent (based on experience, availability, and trip volume)
Job Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Schedule: Flexible, pre-scheduled trip assignments
We are seeking reliable, professional independent contractor drivers to provide non-emergency medical transportation services in the Topeka area. This opportunity is well-suited for individuals who value flexibility, operate independently, and take pride in providing safe, respectful transportation services. You will be using your own car for this contractor job.

Consistent trip volume based on contractor availability
Vehicle Options (Independent Contractor Model):
Contractors must either:
- Operate their own personal vehicle, meeting applicable NEMT and insurance requirements (most common), or
- Operate a company-provided wheelchair-accessible van, subject to very limited availability and possibly separate qualification requirements
Both options are structured as independent contractor engagements, compensated on the same 1099 basis.
Responsibilities:
Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments and approved destinations
Assist passengers as reasonably necessary while maintaining professionalism and respect
Operate a vehicle in a safe, clean, and dependable condition
Communicate clearly with dispatch and follow assigned trip details, routes, and timing
Use required routing or dispatch software during active trip services
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
Prior NEMT, rideshare, or professional driving experience
Familiarity with Topeka and surrounding Kansas areas
Caregiving, healthcare, or customer service background
Strong interpersonal skills with a calm, patient demeanor
Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years old
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Reliable vehicle in good working condition (if using your own vehicle)
Auto insurance meeting Kansas NEMT or rideshare requirements
Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the role, which may include assisting with items or mobility aids up to approximately 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
Smartphone with GPS and data capability
This is an independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and vehicle-related expenses, including fuel, insurance, maintenance, and repairs. Compliance with a drug-free workplace policy may be required for this safety-sensitive driving role, in accordance with applicable law.
