Job Description
Meet Instinct 👋
Instinct Science is an animal health software company that helps the world’s leading veterinary practices deliver exceptional patient care, improve staff efficiency, and minimize team stress and burnout. Our easy-to-use EMR platform acts as the nerve center for veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and support staff alike, fostering seamless collaboration across teams. With our January 2024 acquisition of VetMedux, a company providing trusted education (Clinician’s Brief) and clinical decision support (Standards of Care™, Plumb's) for veterinarians, Instinct has strengthened our commitment to delivering the mission-critical tools veterinary practices need to care for their patients at the highest level and with the best outcomes.
We’re fueled by compassion! Our team, our customers, and their patients and animal owners matter immensely to us. We put the Customer First; Act with Grace, Not Teeth; Do the Right Things for the Right Reasons; and know that Excellence is in our DNA.
If these values speak to you, you might be a good fit for our Clinical Monograph Writer job.
A Sneak Peek of Your Role 🔭
This job, and the team at Instinct, is remote.
Are you a boarded veterinary specialist who loves to write? Do you find yourself energized by the challenge of explaining complex clinical topics with clarity, depth, and precision, all with an eye toward unique case scenarios? Are you at a point in your career in which it’s time to do something … different?
Instinct Science is looking for a board-certified internal medicine specialist to join our Standards of Care team as a full-time writer. In this unique role, you'll produce high-impact, in-depth clinical monographs (10,000–15,000 words each) that guide day-to-day decision-making in veterinary practice. You’ll be working side by side with other specialists and general practitioners who share your obsession with quality, clarity, and evidence-driven medicine.
If your idea of a great day is deep research, thoughtful writing, and refining your work through feedback, this might be your dream job.
Why Consider This Role?
- You’ll make a meaningful mark: This is a chance to co-create the most comprehensive, trusted clinical decision tool in veterinary medicine.
- You’ll work with exceptional people: Our team includes some of the most intelligent minds and compassionate hearts in the profession.
You’ll improve as a clinician and a writer: Writing this deeply, this consistently, will sharpen every skill you have—and we’ll support you every step of the way.
What This Role is NOT
This is not a side gig. This is a full-time commitment. You won’t be seeing cases, but you will be doing the kind of work that supports thousands of caretakers who are. This isn’t a position with wiggly deadlines; we’ll need sharp, plentiful writing—fast.
What You’ll Do 🐱️💻
- Research, write, and revise 5-6 high-quality clinical monographs per month (targeting 60+ over the term)
- Collaborate closely with our team of veterinarians, editors, and reviewers to refine and elevate each piece
- Respond to detailed peer reviewer feedback and editorial input with professionalism and precision
- Work with our content team to shape the future of Standards of Care and raise the bar for clinical writing in veterinary medicine
Who You Are 🐱️💻
- Must Haves:
- DVM, VMD, or equivalent, plus diplomate status from an American specialty board
- 5+ years of clinical experience, with a preference for both specialty and general practice experience
- Demonstrated focus on staying up to date with current advancements in veterinary medicine and advocacy of general veterinary practice
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- Brings a critical eye and review to reviewing and modifying content
- Sharp attention to detail and organizational prowess
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals (from layperson to general practitioner to expert)
- Robust strategic and analytic capacities
- A commitment to ethical standards
- Nice-to-Haves:
- Prior publishing or teaching experience
- Proven experience in medical content development and review
- Strong understanding of peer-reviewed publishing and content production processes
- Proficiency with medical content management systems and digital tools
