Now Hiring: Welder Fitter
Location: Detroit, MI
Pay Range: $24.00–$26.00 per hour
At Milton Manufacturing, precision is the standard. We support defense manufacturing where quality, accuracy, and accountability matter every day. We are seeking a skilled Welder Fitter to fabricate and assemble critical metal components that meet rigorous defense and aerospace requirements.
This role is ideal for an experienced trades professional who takes pride in craftsmanship, works confidently from blueprints, and values safety and quality.
What You’ll Do
• Lay out, position, fit, and weld metal components per engineering drawings
• Perform MIG and TIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
• Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and GD&T
• Measure and verify accuracy using calipers, micrometers, and squares
• Cut, grind, assemble, and finish parts to precise tolerances
• Inspect welds and assemblies to ensure compliance with defense standards
• Collaborate with engineers and team members to resolve fabrication issues
• Maintain welding equipment and keep a clean, organized work area
• Follow all safety protocols and defense compliance requirements (ITAR/AS9100)
• Support continuous improvement and quality initiatives
What You Bring
• Strong blueprint reading and fabrication layout skills
• Proficiency with MIG and TIG welding processes
• Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
• Knowledge of metal preparation, cutting, and grinding techniques
• Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and material-handling equipment
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Dependable, safety-focused, and team-oriented work ethic
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Welding trade school or technical certification preferred
• 3+ years of welding and fitting experience in manufacturing, defense, or aerospace
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
