Job SummaryClient is seeking a skilled Solid State NMR Spectroscopist to join the Material and Analytical Sciences (MAS) team at our Ridgefield, CT facility on a temporary contract basis. The successful candidate will apply advanced ssNMR techniques to characterize pharmaceutical materials and support drug substance and product development. This role offers an exciting opportunity to expand your expertise, work with state-of-the-art equipment, and contribute directly to impactful drug discovery and development projects in a global, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform solid-state NMR (ssNMR) spectroscopy to acquire and interpret 1D and 2D multinuclear data (^1H, ^19F, ^13C, ^15N, etc.) for molecular structure elucidation.
  2. Characterize pharmaceutical materials including particles, powders, suspensions, crystalline and non-crystalline APIs, biologics, excipients, and drug product intermediates.
  3. Apply quantitative ssNMR methods to measure components of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and drug products.
  4. Use molecular modeling and predictive tools alongside NMR and X-ray crystallography for 3D structural evaluation at atomic and molecular levels.
  5. Plan and conduct experiments with minimal supervision to investigate structural predictions.
  6. Maintain proper backup and retrieval of all ssNMR data.
  7. Write experimental protocols, methods, and technical reports with scientific interpretation of results.
  8. Present findings at internal scientific meetings.
  9. Stay current with scientific literature and integrate new knowledge into experimental design and execution.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry or equivalent scientific discipline.
  2. 1–3 years of hands-on experience applying solid-state NMR spectroscopy to structurally characterize pharmaceutically relevant small molecules.
  3. Proficiency in ssNMR sample preparation, data acquisition, and interpretation of multinuclear NMR data.
  4. Experience troubleshooting ssNMR experiments and changing Bruker ssNMR probes.
  5. Solid understanding of molecular structure concepts, including inter-atomic distances, hydrogen bonding, torsion angle strain, and hydrophobic/hydrophilic interactions.
  6. Familiarity with molecular modeling software (e.g., Gaussian, Schrodinger, Materials Studio, CCDC software).
  7. Comfortable working in Linux environments with HPC clusters and job submission systems.
  8. Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within diverse teams.
  9. Excellent laboratory practices ensuring safety and sample integrity.
  10. Strong oral and written communication skills, with organized and efficient record keeping.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Background in solution NMR for structure elucidation.
  2. Experience studying biological systems using ssNMR.
  3. Knowledge of computational chemistry methods such as QM-DFT, Monte Carlo simulations.
  4. Experience preparing and analyzing membrane protein samples.
