Job Description:
- We are seeking a Cognos Analytics Developer with strong enterprise BI assessment experience to evaluate and modernize an existing IBM Cognos Analytics environment.
- This is not just a report developer role, it’s a platform assessment and migration strategy position focused on evaluating a legacy Cognos ecosystem and helping define a roadmap toward Microsoft Azure analytics solutions and Microsoft Fabric (Power BI, Synapse, OneLake).
- If you’ve led BI assessments and helped organizations transition from legacy reporting platforms to modern cloud analytics, this is your lane.
Key Responsibilities:
Current-State Assessment:
- Evaluate the existing IBM Cognos Analytics environment
- Architecture & infrastructure
- Report inventory & categorization
- Data sources and volumes
- Usage metrics and performance
- Security controls and access management
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and technical constraints
- Review compliance, governance, and security posture
Future-State Alignment & Strategy:
- Assess compatibility with:
- Microsoft Azure analytics services
- Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Synapse, Power BI)
- Develop actionable recommendations
- Create a high-level migration roadmap and timeline
- Define implementation phases, milestones, and dependencies
- Design training and knowledge transfer plan for internal teams
- Present findings to technical and executive stakeholders
Required Experience:
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM Cognos Analytics
- Experience assessing enterprise BI environments (architecture, reports, governance)
- Knowledge of:
- Data warehousing concepts
- Dashboards and enterprise reporting platforms
- Security, access controls, compliance frameworks
- Experience analyzing:
- Data volumes
- Performance metrics
- Usage patterns
- Ability to translate technical findings into executive-level recommendations
- Strong communication and stakeholder presentation skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with:
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Power BI
- Azure Data Factory
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Synapse, Power BI integration)
- Experience leading or supporting Cognos-to-Azure/Power BI migrations
- Government or public-sector experience
- Experience building implementation roadmaps and training plans
- Agile project exposure
