What Our Client Needs:
Our client is seeking a Senior Director, Cellular Science & Innovation to set and execute the scientific and strategic vision for cellular science initiatives. This senior leadership role will lead a multidisciplinary team focused on discovering, developing, and advancing innovative cellular platforms and technologies across therapeutic, biomarker/diagnostic, and biomanufacturing pipelines. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in cell biology, cell and gene therapies, regenerative medicine, and immunology, along with proven leadership and translational experience to drive high-impact scientific programs from concept through early clinical and product development. This role reports to the Chief Innovation Officer.

You excel at building high-performing teams, translating complex science into strategy, and fostering collaborations across both internal and external stakeholders. You are comfortable presenting at the executive and board level and thrive in fast-paced, innovative environments.
What Youll Do:
- Define and lead the cellular science and innovation roadmap aligned with corporate R&D strategy.
- Identify and evaluate emerging cellular technologies and platforms for internal development or external partnership.
- Oversee R&D initiatives in cell therapy, cellular engineering, and ECP mechanisms of action (MOA).
- Ensure scientific rigor and innovation across all programs and collaborations.
- Lead project prioritization and resource allocation to maximize impact and efficiency.
- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of scientists, engineers, and program leads.
- Partner with leaders in Clinical, Regulatory, Engineering, Business Development, and Commercial to advance programs and shape strategy.
- Act as a key scientific spokesperson internally and externally, including with partners, investors, and at conferences.
- Establish and manage strategic academic and industry collaborations to expand scientific capabilities.
- Engage with KOLs, customers, and stakeholders to translate clinical needs into product solutions.
This position is office-based in the Nashville/Franklin, TN area and requires approximately 30% travel.
This role has supervisory responsibilities.
What Youll Need:
- PhD in Cell Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or Bioengineering.
- 12+ years of relevant experience in biotech, pharma, or academic research.
- Demonstrated success in building and advancing innovative cellular platforms or therapies.
- Strong publication and/or patent record in relevant areas.
- Experience with regulatory and translational aspects of cellular technologies is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence; comfortable presenting to executive teams, boards, and scientific symposia.
