POSITION SUMMARY: Join the YMCA team as a Certified Pool Operator, where you’ll help create a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for all. You’ll maintain pool systems, keep facilities clean and safe, and ensure members enjoy a positive and fun experience every time they visit.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate and maintain pool systems, equipment, and water quality
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance
  • Ensure all facilities, equipment, and chemicals meet safety and code requirements
  • Oversee annual and emergency shutdowns and repairs
  • Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary pool areas and storage spaces
  • Test and balance water chemistry; service safety equipment
  • Report maintenance issues and keep leadership informed of significant concerns
  • Support other duties as needed to ensure smooth pool operations

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current North Carolina Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate from the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance
  • Willingness and ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • Strong knowledge of public pool safety and health codes, as well as proper procedures for storing, handling, and using toxic chemicals
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Certified Pool Operator

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

1. Must be able to see, hear, and speak clearly.

2. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

3. Must be in good health, able to bend, stand, stoop, walk, climb and work outside in all terrain and weather conditions for extended periods of time.

4. Must be able to comprehend and communicate written and or verbal instructions.

5. Comfortable working at heights and around water.

YMCA SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.

Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.

Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.

Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.

Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.

Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.


Job Title: Certified Pool Operator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part Time

Pay Rate: $16 / Hour

Reports to: Director of Aquatic Safety

Availability: Monday - Saturday, 4PM - 8PM
