Job Description

Title: Estimator (Structural Concrete and Miscellaneous Metals)

Location: Sacramento, CA

Salary: 119K to 135K DOE


Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing accurate, timely proposals and estimates for both private and public sector projects. Additionally, the Estimator will assist the Senior Estimator/Project Manager in all aspects of the bid/estimating process from review of plans and specifications, negotiating prices from subcontractors and suppliers through completion of bid/estimating effort including closeout.

Essential duties and other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analyzes and compiles estimate data that impact labor costs, materials, equipment requirements, location and other factors to ensure a timely estimate.
  • Reviews drawings, specifications and proposed project site conditions, records findings and solicits input from Senior Management and field operations in final project estimate.
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with owners.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Utilizes existing cost history as a reference to complete estimate.
  • Keeps organized records and files and ensure all project information is supplied to the project coordinator and project managers in a timely manner.
  • Perform accurate site surveys.
  • Develops and manages takeoffs to confirm quantities and ensure accuracy of drawings.
  • Presents bids include constructability, risk factors, schedules and budgets to review teams prior to bid submission.
  • Participates in post completion review/analysis of bids and projects for future improvement.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Heavy Civil estimating support in structural concrete and miscellaneous metals.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing, and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarization with software programs for job costing, scheduling and estimating.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Goal oriented with the ability to set goals and achieve them.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • A valid California Driver's License
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred)
