Job Title: Support Teacher
Part-time, 10 months Non-Exempt
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Support Teacher assists classroom teachers and supports the academic and social/emotional growth of Concord's neurodiverse students. The ideal candidate is an education professional with teaching assistant experience who fully supports Concord Academy's mission to educate students with learning differences. The individual must promote the school's culture of respecting neurodiversity, promoting equity and inclusion, and empowering students to succeed. This part-time (20 hours/week), hourly, 10-month position reports to the Principal.
JOB DUTIES
- Provide daily classroom support by covering absences, breaks, or emergency situations, and assisting teachers as directed by the Principal.
- Work with students one-on-one and in small groups as needed to address academic needs.
- Assist with student assessment, evaluation, and testing, including semester exams, EOC testing, ACT administration, and other student evaluation instruments.
- Cover the front office during breaks, absences, or emergency situations.
- Manage library inventory, including books, textbooks, and other resources.
- Work in the Homework Room program as needed.
- Assist the Principal by performing assigned tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree or equivalent in education or special education, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children in an educational setting.
- Must possess or be able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Must be able to work independently with a high degree of initiative while achieving results
- Must be able to function effectively as part of a team
- Must be exceptionally flexible with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must be proficient in the following programs/software:
- Office 365 Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams
- Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and educational software platforms (e.g., Accelerated Reader, AR360, IXL, etc.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position must have the ability to:
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Remain alert and energetic for at least 8 hours.
- Operate standard office equipment, a personal computer, and use the telephone.
- See and read a computer screen and printed matter with/without vision aids.
- Hear and understand the English language at normal levels and on the telephone.
- Stand, walk, and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds waist height.
- Walk up/down multiple flights of stairs.
- Minimize exposure to unfavorable conditions (e.g., body fluids, blood from cuts, vomit, communicable diseases) by exercising basic safety and health precautions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this position will be required to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and come in direct contact with Concord staff, students, parents/guardians, and the public. The Support Teacher is provided with a computer, telephone, high-speed Internet access, and office space. Concord Academy is housed in a non-smoking building.
