POSITION SUMMARY:

About the job:
Provide leadership and supervision for Novice Swim Team instructional programs while also serving in a front line lead role.
 
A day in the life:
<ul>
<li>Supervises Novice Swim program ensuring program standards are maintained</li>
<li>Provides leadership, expertise and support to Novice Swim staff which may include training, mentoring, directing and assigning work. May assist Supervisor in hiring and evaluating staff.</li>
<li>Assists Supervisor in developing, planning and scheduling programs.</li>
<li>Oversees facility operations during assigned shifts; opens and closes facility; ensures that health and safety standards are maintained; oversees the operation and care of equipment and supplies, addresses maintenance issues.</li>
<li>Ensures the inclusion of all participants, adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities and working with Therapeutic Recreation staff as needed. </li>
<li>Attends supervisory and planning meetings.</li>
<li>Prepares necessary materials.</li>
<li>Provides for safety of participants and staff, including implementing risk management practices.</li>
<li>Oversees the operation and care of equipment, supplies </li>
<li>Addresses public questions and concerns regarding facilities and programs in a positive and constructive manner.</li>
<li>Serves as the on-site lead of the Emergency Action Plan, managing response according protocols.</li>
<li>Purchases supplies; submits receipts and documentation.</li>
<li>Maintains required records and reports.</li>
<li>Acts as a Mandatory Reports; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect</li>
</ul>
Work Schedule:
M/W 4:00pm-5:00pm 
T/Th 7:00am -8:00am and/or 3:00pm-6:00pm
Additional hours may be available through swim instructor 
Requirements:
What you'll need for success:
Strong Knowledge of:
<ul>
<li>Learning development, stroke technique, water safety, program levels and teaching methods, practices and progressions. </li>
<li>Strong personal swimming skills. </li>
<li>Strict adherence to safety guidelines related to assignment.</li>
<li>Effective supervision and customer service best practices; and</li>
<li>Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures for assignment. </li>
</ul>
Skill and Ability to:
<ul>
<li>Demonstrate leadership, organizational, planning and problem solving skills; </li>
<li>Lead, motivate and direct others;</li>
<li>Exercise initiative and independent decision making;</li>

</ul>
What We're Looking for:
Education, Experience and Training:
<ol>
<li>Currently attending high school, or High school diploma or equivalent; AND</li>
<li>Must be at least 16 years of age; AND</li>
<li>Some previous work, training/certification or volunteer experience related to position; OR</li>
<li>Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.</li>
</ol>
License and Certifications:
<ol>
<li>Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or American Coaches Certification Level 1.</li>
</ol>
 
Supervision Exercised:
Supervision is not a responsibility of this position; however provides direction and Novice Coaching Staff and volunteers working in program area.
 
Supervision Received:
Works under the supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator. Receive ongoing and specific direction from Aquatic Supervisor.
 
Working Conditions:
Position may require being in and out of water and constantly using the voice in an often noisy environment. Depending on program, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include working in extreme weather conditions. Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays. Hours vary depending upon specific program needs. The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling in order to deliver equipment and supplies. Job stress may include dealing with crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, exposure to illness and periods of continuous demand.
