The Position:
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Responsible for operation of the laboratory and providing quality results to our physicians and patients. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is able to handle all duties and tasks related to daily operations of the lab without supervision, including running quality control, proficiency testing specimens, and performing preventative maintenance on the laboratory analyzers. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist should be able to troubleshoot and answer general questions from providers, MAs, and phlebotomists while having very good understanding of the laboratory software.
As a Clinical Laboratory Specialist, a typical day might look like:
- Maintaining organized work setting by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting and organizing specimens, checking labeling and specimen quality, and logging specimens
- Ensure quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine maintenance and troubleshooting, calibrating equipment and reagents, approving tests results and monitoring quality control measures and protocols
- Identifying and communicating critical results, abnormal patient results and/or specimen conditions by alerting the lab manager, phlebotomist, patient physician, or medical assistant
This job might be for you if:
- You have a Bachelors degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science or equivalent work experience.
- You have a current MLS or MT certification (ASCP or AMT)
- You have 2 years of clinical lab experience
- You have strong verbal skills
- You have strong written skills
- You have the ability to multi-task
