Pay:

Visterra offers competitive pay commensurate with experience in a similar position. The range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 annually, but actual compensation will vary depending upon new hire experience and qualifications as well as internal equity. 

Role Overview:

The Immigration Compliance Specialist plays a vital role in supporting a fast-growing, dynamic organization where people are the foundation of everything we do. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the full lifecycle of the H-2B visa process for seasonal and temporary workers. The role partners with internal stakeholders, legal counsel, and external agencies to ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and USCIS regulations. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating seamless immigration experiences that support our workforce and business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end H-2B visa process including:
    • Prevailing wage determination
    • Job order postings
    • DOL applications and audits
    • USCIS petition filings
    • Embassy scheduling and worker onboarding
  • Maintain full compliance with DOL and USCIS regulations, including deadlines, required documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Partner with legal counsel and third-party agents to ensure smooth and timely visa processing.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and point of contact for all internal and external H-2B-related matters.
  • Track visa cap timelines, changes in legislation, and policy updates impacting the H-2B program.
  • Monitor and report on immigration trends, policy changes, and their business impact. Coordinate with hiring managers to forecast seasonal staffing needs and build recruitment plans accordingly.
  • Manage H-2B worker arrival logistics, including housing, transportation, and onboarding.
  • Develop and maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports to support government reporting and internal audits.
  • Conduct training and briefings for internal teams to raise awareness of H-2B processes and compliance requirements.
  • Advise on I-9 compliance, audits, and E-Verify processes.
  • Identify process improvements and implement best practices for H-2B program management.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of immigration compliance programs.
  • Assist in managing, tracking, and working with multiple stakeholders to identify eligible H-2B visa workers for transition to permanent residency.
  • Ability to travel up to 35%.

Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, Legal Studies, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience managing the H-2B visa process or employment-based immigration compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of DOL, DHS, and USCIS processes, including I-9 and E-Verify administration.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and documentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with immigration laws and regulations.

Preferred: 

  • Experience in a high-volume seasonal hiring environment (e.g., landscaping, hospitality, construction).
  • Experience working with immigration attorneys and third-party agents 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Familiarity with permanent residency processes (e.g., PERM, I-140, Adjustment of Status). 
  • Prior experience working with immigration attorneys and third-party agents.
