The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) currently consists of 16 attorneys working collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Columbia University. &nbsp;OGC is seeking an attorney to work primarily on employment related issues in connection with Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC).&nbsp; CUIMC is one of the nation’s largest academic medical centers, and includes the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Dental Medicine, Mailman School of Public Health and School of Nursing. &nbsp;Experience in employment law is required. Responsibilities

Position Summary

As a member of the library’s dynamic, collaborative Instructional Technology Services team, the librarian in this position has primary oversight for the Office of Legal Technology &amp; Instructional Services. This position leads the development and delivery of services supporting the integration of library resources into the curriculum, the curation and use of the library’s growing electronic resources collection, the use of scholarly communication technologies and services, and the undertaking of digital initiatives. POSITION SUMMARY:
A CASA staff attorney is on the front line in defending, advocating for, and working alongside our members in different spaces. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for providing direct representation to CASA members in civil legal cases, such as immigration, housing, employment, and/or civil rights , while helping to support the broader efforts of CASA’s Legal Department, as assigned by their supervisor. CASA staff attorneys work with a dynamic group of paralegals, organizers, advocates, and social service staff in a friendly and fast-paced environment. 
The number of vacancies for this position is three. This position is eligible to work from CASA's Multicultural Center in Hyattsville MD, CASA's Baltimore Welcome Center in Baltimore, MD, or CASA's Rockville Welcome Center in Rockville, MD.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Direct Legal Work

<li>Under the supervision of the Supervising Attorney, provide legal representation to CASA members in civil legal cases. </li>
<li>Provide brief legal services, including legal orientation, intake, education, counseling, advice and referrals to community members on a variety of legal issues, such as immigration, housing, employment, and/or civil rights. </li>

Outreach/Popular Education

The Housing Unit fights for the stability of&nbsp;vulnerable individuals and families by preventing homelessness through legal advocacy and promoting housing quality and affordability for low-income tenants. The Housing Unit is significantly expanding its eviction prevention services to support implementation of Philadelphia’s Right to Counsel for tenants in court proceedings, as well as legal services support for Philadelphia’s new&nbsp;Eviction Diversion Program.&nbsp;&nbsp; CLS is a non-profit public interest organization providing free civil legal services to low-income Philadelphia residents. Representation includes all the elements of litigation&nbsp;including client interviewing, investigation, discovery, identifying and preparing witnesses and&nbsp;exhibits, pleadings, briefs, and representation at hearings at trial level and appellate levels as&nbsp;appropriate in state and federal court.
