Position Summary: The Director of Contracts & Compliance serves as the company’s senior leader for contract management, compliance, and legal advisory support. This role is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of contracts—from proposal to closeout—while ensuring compliance with federal regulations, including FAR/DFAR, ITAR, and other applicable government contracting requirements. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in defense contracting, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to advise leadership on legal and compliance matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Lead and manage the company’s contracts function, including negotiation, drafting, review, and administration of government and commercial contracts.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for contract negotiations with government agencies, primes, and subcontractors.
· Ensure compliance with federal regulations (FAR/DFAR), agency supplements, and company policies.
· Provide strategic legal and compliance guidance to senior leadership on matters related to contracts, procurement integrity, intellectual property, and risk management.
· Develop and maintain contract management processes, templates, and systems to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
· Monitor regulatory and legislative developments impacting defense contracting; update company leadership and policies accordingly.
· Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Business Development, and Program Management teams to support proposals, bids, and contract performance.
· Oversee compliance training programs and internal audits to ensure alignment with federal contracting standards.
· Lead or support investigations into compliance matters, reporting requirements, and corrective action plans as necessary.
· Mentor and develop contracts and compliance staff to strengthen organizational capability.
Qualifications:
- Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 10+ years’ experience in contracts management
- Extensive knowledge of U.S. Government contracting, FAR/DFARs regulations, and defense industry compliance requirements
- Experience working with ITAR, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and related regulatory frameworks
- Juris Doctorate preferred
- Strong business acumen with the ability to balance risk and operational priorities
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship building skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Physical Requirements:
- Extended screen time
- Ability to travel to ALIGN sites as needed
Travel Required: Travel to the ALIGN sites will be required as necessitated by the business.
