REPORTS TO: Library Director
NATURE OF DUTIES: Assists three full-time staff librarians with basic library duties, including providing circulation desk and reference assistance to patrons; assisting patrons with the use of computers, copier, scanner, and AV equipment; shelving books; completing inventories; updating library databases; scanning photos and documents; supervising student work-study assistants; opening and closing the library; and other duties as required.
Applicants must be willing to learn and implement library policies and procedures, pay close attention to detail, have good communication and human-relations skills, and possess the ability to act and represent the college in a professional manner when not under direct supervision. Along with two daytime shifts, applicants must be willing to work three midnight closing shifts each week during the academic year. Days off are Mondays and Thursdays. Work requires stooping, reaching, and lifting.
SUPERVISION GIVEN: Supervises six part-time student work-study assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A college degree; supervisory experience; competence in the use of computers; proficiency with Microsoft software applications; excellent written, verbal, and public relations skills.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Previous library work experience; familiarity with the St. John’s College curriculum.
STATUS: Temporary—35 hours per week during the fall, spring, and summer semesters, with abbreviated hours during library closures between academic sessions (i.e. Winter Break, Spring Break, Summer Intersessions).
COMPENSATION: $16 per hour.
