Position Overview:
Schaefer Plastics is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Switch Operator to join our Shipping team. In this role, you will be responsible for moving trailers between our buildings and warehouse, ensuring equipment is in proper working order, and keeping accurate trailer records. This is a hands-on position critical to keeping our operations running smoothly and on schedule. Key Switch Operator, also known as: Switch Driver, Switcher/Truck Driver


Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document daily vehicle inspections.

  • Maintain an up-to-date list of carrier trailers on the Schaefer property.

  • Ensure proper type identification on all storage trailers.

  • Retrieve empty trailers upon request from the Shipping Coordinator.

  • Inspect the condition of all trailers before use, documenting and photographing any questionable or damaged units.

  • Remove and store loaded carrier trailers as needed.

  • Perform necessary trailer transfers between all Schaefer facilities.

  • Complete all other projects or tasks as assigned by the Shipping Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Valid CDL license required, along with a current health record.

  • Minimum 1 year of prior manufacturing experience required; plastics manufacturing preferred.

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience required.

  • Strong punctuality and reliability.

  • Safety-first mindset and attention to detail.
