Job Title: Aquatic Deck Supervisor
Department: Aquatics
Reports to: Aquatics and Member Services Supervisor
Job Class: Part Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $20 an hour
Work Hours: 4:30-7pm Monday-Thursday
Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Aquatics and Member Services Supervisor, the Aquatic Deck Supervisor will maintain safe conditions in and around the swimming area. The Aquatic Deck Supervisor will promote a safe and positive atmosphere in accordance with the Park District's aquatics policy and procedures. This person will provide deck supervision during program times, assist with group lessons, and provide support to the Aquatics and Member Services Supervisor as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees group swim lessons and checks with lifeguards and swim instructors throughout lessons
- Provides feedback to swimming instructors, helps with instruction, and class management when needed
- Ensure instructional equipment remains in good condition; have all equipment ready prior to classes and put away.
- Adheres to and promotes an environment of safety and cleanliness by following all safety regulations and guidelines of the Park District.
- Actively participate in all training sessions and designated meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 18 years of age
- Previous experience working as a lifeguard, swim instructor or in a related field. Training will be provided.
- Lifeguard Certified (Park District provided upon hire if needed).
- Enjoys working with kids and adults in a pool environment.
- Responsible, energetic, and patient.
Competencies
- Ability to read and understand materials such as manuals, policies, and other materials printed in English.
- Ability to use good safety awareness and judgment.
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere and work closely with co-workers and the general public, while promoting the Park District's mission statement, vision, and core values.
- Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.
- Ability to receive constructive criticism and/or supervision.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations.
- Possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.
- Ability to resolve differences and problems that arise with customers and staff.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Work is conducted indoors in chlorinated pool environment.
- Work may require bending, twisting, crouching, stooping, kneeling, lifting, and navigating pool deck.
