Previous experience as an automotive restoration technician / auto body technician is required and highly knowledgeable about the exterior of cars and how to work on them using the best practices. Ability to utilize a wide variety of car maintenance and repair tools. Use of welding machines to replace parts, refinish vehicles to prepare them for painting, perform body repair work, among other tasks. This involves sanding cars and ensuring that the body of the vehicle is ready to take on a new coat of paint. Experienced disassembly/assembly technician and mechanic preferred.
This is not a collision shop and most of our body and paint jobs are larger restorations; full frame-off restorations and paint work on classic and vintage cars. The right fit will have a pride in their work, the knowledge and experience to tackle the jobs properly, and the willingness to constantly learn and better themselves.
Automotive Restoration Technician / Auto Body Technician Requirements:
- Must have detailed knowledge and understanding of vehicle structure with classic and muscle cars
- Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment (e.g. lift)
- Must have experience in welding & fabrication, priming, mask and tape, block sanding, suspension & chassis work
- Must have a minimum of seven (7) years experience in automotive body work with classic cars.
- Must be familiar with the characteristics of the metals and compounds used in vehicle construction to use the correct repair techniques, tools and materials
- Skills to dismantle and reassemble parts, using cutting tools if necessary
- Knowledge of inspecting and repairing necessary components of a vehicle such as motors, transmissions, radiators and belts a plus
- Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.
- Must bring your own tools
- Ability to follow all workplace safety requirements
- At least seven or more years working in a similar position
Automotive Restoration Technician / Auto Body Technician Responsibilities:
- Must use knowledge and judgment to decide that a vehicle cannot be restored to a safe condition because of serious damage to critical structural components
- To use the full range of repair techniques
- Repair, replace, and upgrade a variety of vehicle parts
- To restore bodywork to its original condition using fillers and body repair products to level the surface before using different grades of sanding material to prepare the body for painting
- Knowledge to check the surface carefully for any small imperfection before painting
- Must also be able to perform work with accuracy and to the highest quality level; must have a high attention to detail
- Keep logs on work and issues
- Keeping work place organized
- Maintain equipment and tools in good condition
- Knowledge of vehicle's electrical system a plus
- The ability to work independently with little supervision and a positive team attitude
- Employees must be available for work during normal business hours
