Job Description
Position Overview
Were seeking a hands-on Mechanical Field Engineer to lead the installation, launch, and on-site troubleshooting of our autonomous logistics robot at customer plants. This is a field-facing role that combines mechanical design, system integration, and excellent customer service to ensure a successful trial deployment of our pallet-style robot.
Key Responsibilities
- Install & Commission Robot
- Lead on-site robot setup: mechanical assembly, calibration, integration into facility pathways, and initial testing.
- Launch Trial Deployment
- Configure and validate route logic, navigation parameters (e.g., path mapping, safety zones), and align performance with client-defined objectives.
- Troubleshoot & Maintain
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical or sensor issuese.g., wheel alignment, chassis connections, actuator accuracy. Perform repairs, adjustments, or replacements.
- Document & Report
- Record deployment details: setup steps, encountered issues, corrective actions, and performance metrics. Provide clear reports and recommendations.
- Collaborate with Teams
- Work alongside engineering, operations, and customer success teams to iterate robot design and deployment process.
- Customer Training & Support
- Walk plant staff through system usage, basic maintenance, safety checks, and emergency procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Robotics (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of field engineering or robotics deployment experience, ideally in industrial settings.
- Strong hands-on skills: mechanical assembly, alignment, calibration, FMEA mindset.
- CAD proficiency (e.g. SolidWorks, ProE) and ability to interpret technical drawings/specs.
- Good troubleshooting abilities with mechanical systems, sensors, and actuators.
- Excellent verbal communication and customerfacing skills; ability to provide clear training and support.
Helpful (Preferred) Skills
- Experience with ROS or similar robotics frameworks.
- Basic programming ability (in Python or scripting languages for integrations).
- Understanding of automated systems, kinematics, path planning.
- Experience in logistics, AGV/AMR deployment, or industrial robotics.
Role Requirements
- Willingness to travel to customer sites (may include overnight stays).
- Ability to carry tools and hardware (~2535 lb) through industrial environments.
- Flexibility for extended on-site trial phases.
Deliverables
- Fully operational robot aligned with customer success criteria (routes, safety, uptime).
- Detailed deployment report and roadmap for scaling to full production.
- Trained customer personnel capable of daily usage and basic troubleshooting.
Why You'll Love This Role
- Be the first to introduce automation at customer facilities and directly influence operational improvements.
- Solve real-world challenges in logistics robotics and see immediate impact.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and customer success teams to refine product-market fit.
