Job DescriptionDescription:

Summary Job Description: Responsible for final finishes running machine. This involves tasks related to set-up, machine operation, and disposing of chips as required.



Shift: 8 hours regular shifts and 12 hours over-time shifts. Breaks: 30 minute lunch. Flooring: Cement, wooden platforms, grates, rubber mats. Environment: Machine shop environment. Need to be careful with other employees while moving overhead cranes in the vicinity. Safety Equipment: Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes. Strength Range: Medium-Heavy strength range.



Tools and Equipment: Roll grinder, various hand tools, chip pushers, cranes, shovels, brooms, etc. This list is not all inclusive.



Job Functions and Functional Job Task Elements



Task 1: Operate Machine


  • Receive metal rolls from machine area-a jib crane can be used to lift heavier items.
  • Check prints for specific job.
  • Parts placed and measurements taken and tool marked prior to running job.
  • Need a forward reach of 32”.
  • Gripping of parts and tools.
  • May need to utilize drivers to operate the machine-can weigh up to 90#.
  • Change out bearings as needed.
  • Must monitor machine operation carefully due to close tolerance of machine operation-final finishes on neck and barrel.
  • Trunk flexion and twisting.
  • May utilize stool for sitting if needed to observe and monitor machine while running.
  • Walk back and forth to monitor machine.
  • Visual inspection of part.



Task 2: Maintain Machine and Surrounding Area


  • The chips on this machine need be shoveled into pit.
  • Oil/water mix with -soda ash.
  • Check machine for maintenance: check fluids, etc.
  • Complete time sheet per job: materials and time noted.
  • Keep area clean, sweep, pick up debris, etc.
