Job SummaryThe Process Engineer will support sterilization technology and terminal sterilization processes across the division. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with teams in Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Division Engineering to support development, engineering, and manufacturing projects. Primary responsibilities include overseeing internal sterilization processes and equipment while also coordinating with external vendors. The ideal candidate will apply engineering principles and problem-solving skills to improve process performance, resolve production issues, and maintain equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with site engineers, operations personnel, and external suppliers to sustain and improve sterilization operations.
- Support operations teams by gathering required information and providing updates on process performance and changes.
- Respond quickly to production upsets; troubleshoot, diagnose, and implement corrective actions to reestablish steady operations.
- Assist in developing and implementing SPC/SQC tools for process discipline and control.
- Provide technical leadership in assigned process areas and escalate critical issues as necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at expanding core process capabilities.
- Apply engineering first principles (e.g., MEE) to develop a mechanistic understanding of issues and identify root causes.
- Deliver strategic technical direction and support for sterilization processes.
- Support and execute development, validation, routine sterilization, and requalification activities.
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional project teams for commercial product support, process improvements, and innovation initiatives.
- Analyze and monitor process data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Track internal sterilization asset performance with the goal of achieving 98% equipment uptime.
- Document all changes and updates in compliance with change control procedures.
- Train maintenance and operations staff to ensure proper understanding of processes, equipment, and quality standards.
- Flex working hours as needed to meet business demands.
- Provide indirect leadership to technical and hourly staff to help meet safety, quality, cost, service, and output goals.
Required Qualifications
- achelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related discipline).
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of process troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with SPC/SQC and familiarity with process control systems.
- Ability to analyze process data and make data-driven decisions.
- Solid communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across departments.
- Proficiency in documenting process changes and adhering to change control systems.
- Understanding of sterilization technologies and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with terminal sterilization (e.g., EtO, gamma, steam).
- Familiarity with validation and requalification procedures related to sterilization.
- Exposure to equipment performance monitoring tools and systems.
- Background in medical device, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Leadership experience in project or team environments.
