Job Title: Sports Coordinator (Full-Time), YMCA

Description: Under the direction of the Association Sports Director, coordinates the general administration of the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg's youth and adult physical education and sports programs, leaders and volunteers and related activities. Assists in supervising staff & volunteers, develops & implements youth sports programs and ensures member satisfaction. Oversees use of YMCA and community facilities to deliver sports programs across multiple sites. Develops and maintains rapport between public, civic, professional and voluntary agencies. Evening and weekend availability is essential to meet program needs.


Job Duties:

  1. Supports operations across multiple YMCA branches and off-site locations, including but not limited to youth sports leagues, adult leagues, sports clinics, summer and holiday camps, physical education programs for private and homeschool groups, and after-school sports.
  2. Supports recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers assigned to sports programs, ensuring alignment with YMCA values and standards.
  3. Assists in the implementation and day-to-day oversight of youth and adult sports programs, clinics, camps, PE, and after-school sports activities.
  4. Collaborates with the Association Sports Director to assign athletes to teams and communicate schedules, rosters, and program details to families.
  5. Responds promptly to member and participant needs, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience.
  6. Supports efforts to grow program participation, retention, and revenue through high-quality delivery and member engagement.
  7. Participates in membership recruitment and retention initiatives, promoting sports programs as a key value proposition.
  8. Maintains accurate records of program participation and attendance.
  9. Ensures sports fields and facilities are safe, clean, and ready for use, reporting any concerns or hazards.
  10. Promotes a family-friendly atmosphere and maintains a secure environment during practices and games.
  11. Serves as on-site coordinator during practices, games, and events, providing leadership and support.
  12. Assists with facility setup and breakdown, including opening and closing responsibilities when applicable.
  13. Supports officials, coaches, and staff during practices and games, helping resolve issues and maintain program integrity.
  14. Coordinates substitute coverage for officials or coaches when needed.
  15. Monitors equipment condition, reporting needs for replacement or repair to the Association Sports Director.
  16. Assists in planning and executing seasonal events, including program kick-offs and end-of-season celebrations.
  17. Acts as a central point of communication for program participants, families, and staff, maintaining positive public relations.
  18. Implements first aid and safety procedures in accordance with YMCA policies.
  19. Completes required abuse prevention training, adheres to mandated reporting requirements, and follows all risk management protocols.
  20. Works evenings and weekends as required, based on program schedules and operational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High School Diploma/GED or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge/experience in coaching, planning and supervising a sports program.
  • Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid required in the first 90 days of employment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to run, talk, hear and perform work-related functions in indoor and outdoor settings. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, run and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to reach, stoop, crouch and climb stairs.

Locations: The Sports Coordinator will work between 3 YMCA locations, depending on schedule:

  • Bardmoor YMCA (8495 Bryan Dairy Road, Largo, FL 33773)
  • Speer YMCA ( 495 62nd Ave NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33702)
  • Gills YMCA (3200 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712)

Pay & Perks: $17.50-$20.00/hour. Full Time. Free individual YMCA membership for employee and family. Medical, dental, & vision insurance, plus paid time off!
