Job Description

Job DescriptionA Day in the Life of an Industrial Equipment Technician

As an Industrial Equipment Technician, your day begins with a thorough check of machinery to ensure operational efficiency. You’ll engage in mid to high-level maintenance work to fix issues or prevent problems before they arise. From fixing broken parts to adjusting devices and controls, you will ensure everything runs smoothly. You’ll also conduct thorough testing procedures on both electrical circuits and mechanical systems—a task essential for ensuring machine reliability.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, source, and replace parts as required.
  • Perform maintenance tasks autonomously, following industry protocols.
  • Manage various machining operations such as lathe and grinder work.
  • Maintain 5S and housekeeping best practices to ensure an optimum work environment.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives including efficiency and cost containment.
  • Keep track of history through CMMS updates.
  • Perform detailed troubleshooting of control systems, tackling both software and hardware issues.
  • Apply predictive technologies for data gathering on equipment performance.
  • Lead and guide less experienced technicians and small teams.
  • Pursue skill enhancement through technical programs.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, with a keen eye on identifying hazardous conditions.

Your Expertise:

  • High School graduate or holding a GED.
  • Associates degree with a specialized focus and three years of related work or five years of direct experience, or completion of the ATS Technician Progression Program.
  • Skilled at diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical, fluid, and control systems problems.
  • Familiar with basic and specialized tool usage.
  • Flexibility for potential travel requirements.

Physical Environment:

You will often stand, walk, and handle materials requiring hand and arm dexterity. Climbing, stooping, and working at heights or within confined spaces is routine. Occasionally, lifting items over 50 pounds is necessary. Your keen vision and color perception will be vital, especially when navigating the loud factory environment where risk of electric shock and exposure to risky materials may occur.

Proficiency Required:

  • Expertise in PLC troubleshooting and programming.
  • Comfort in managing voltage systems ranging from 120 to 480 volts.
  • In-depth knowledge in Electrical Repair.

Equipment You'll Handle:

  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • PLC systems from Allen Bradley, Fanuc, and Siemens
  • Conveyor Mechanisms
  • Servo Motors
