Summary

The Extrusion Assistant Operator is primarily responsible to prepare materials, maintain the extrusion equipment and keep the area clean at all times. The assistant operator helps the operator with the extruder in maintaining quality standards and works meticulously to keep the line performing at an optimal level. Additionally, this role will cover machines to allow for breaks and occasionally cover shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem from time to time.

  • Read and understand the communication book, in order to plan the work shift according to the operators’ instructions.
  • Help with the installation, adjustments and disassembly of the machines and the equipment.
  • Cut and verify the measurements of the sleeves, and prepare pallets.
  • Verify, inspect & clean the extruder continuously.
  • Verify the quality of the plastic produced (weight, thickness, width, treatment, opacity & visual quality) and wrap the rolls accordingly.
  • Complete production reports according to the operators’ requests.
  • Assist the operator when repairing or checking faulty equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of all materials used in the extrusion process.
  • Move materials and tools from one work area to another.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in your department.
  • Execute all other related tasks as directed when needed.
  • Assist Technician to complete all beginning duties associated with production to ensure product conforms to customer specifications with minimal waste, rejects and loss of efficiencies
  • Practice safety through following all procedures and participate in all safety trainings and audits.
  • Safely operate lift trucks and roll moving equipment to load, unload, stage and store materials.
  • Management of material in shipping and receiving system to ensure accurate shipments and inventory levels.
  • Demonstrate ability to properly lock out all areas of extrusion line and risks associated with working in production.
  • Use of production reporting system to ensure accuracy of data and labels.
  • 5S and housekeeping
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Expand knowledge on extrusion lines (and other equipment) through experience.
  • Be able to operate in a team environment through proper communication and assisting each other during all steps of operation.

Education and /or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three months related experience and/or training.
  • Experience working with blown film or extrusion processes are a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical ability necessary.
  • Ability to work various shifts.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Employees are required to wear hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety shoes.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Pulls hand trucks to lift and move 500lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee is working in an environment of fast moving equipment.


6:45am-7pm Day Shift 6:45pm-7am Night Shift
Rotating 2,2,3,2 12-Hour schedule, 36-48 hours per week
